Raz earned his PhD degree from Department of Physics, University of Peshawar. During his PhD, he visited Federal University of Santa Catarina, Florianopolis where he worked with Prof. Carlos R. Rambo at the Laboratory of Electrical Materials (LAMATE) under a sandwitch PhD program. Then he joined Prof. Ian M Reaney group at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Sheffield, UK where he completed his research work. After completing PhD in 2015, he joined Islamia College, Peshawar as an Assistant Professor (IPFP) where he worked for one year. In August 2016, he moved to Abdul Wali Khan University and joined Department of Physics as an assistant professor. Currently, he is working as a visiting researcher on a joint research project with Prof. MS Castro of National University of Mar del Plata, Argentina.

His research work is applied in nature and his current interests includes fabrication of functional oxides for wireless communications systems, MLCCs, thermoelectric power generation, oxygen ion conductors and high energy density storage applications. Besides, he is working on theoretical study of functional oxides using density functional theory.
